Rare created Xbox 360-Nintendo DS link with Viva Pinata
Did your spine tingle a little today? That's because developer Rare played god with Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise and mated the Xbox 360 version with a Nintendo DS.
I was violated by an Xbox 360
Using the camera add-on for the Xbox 360, Rare was able to successfully mate that system's version of Viva Piñata with the upcoming one for Nintendo DS.
The hell spawned lovechild was killed off however, because the feature was thought of and implemented too late in the Xbox 360 version's development cycle.
"We got it to work, but it was too late in the development cycle," said "Trouble In Paradise" designer Justin Cook. If they'd thought of it sooner, he told MTV Multiplayer, then maybe it could have happened, but not now. "It's one of those things where you just kick yourself," he said.
The Xbox "communicated" with the DS by way of the Xbox 360 camera, which reads codes off of cards, iPod screens and even dual screened Nintendo handhelds to unlock hidden content.
Rare confirmed that the DS version of Viva Piñata was finished as of May 11. The Xbox 360 sequel, "Trouble in Paradise," arrives in September.
